В статье анализируется антиномия как художественный прием в романе Д.С. Мережковского «Юлиан Отступник». Противоречивость мышления наблюдается в кризисные моменты истории, потому антиномия встречается как в философских исканиях рубежа веков, так и в борьбе философских и религиозных систем первых веков нашей эры. Антиномия в романе Д.С. Мережковского – это не только способ характеристики персонажей, переживающих духовный раскол на заре христианства, но и неотъемлемая часть Истины (гнозиса), обретаемой в синтезе двух противоборствующих систем. Одна из главных идей произведения в том, что обретение великой Правды (гнозиса) возможно через соединение антитез и благодаря всеобщим усилиям единомышленников. Единственная личность не способна постичь Истину целиком – необходима титаническая сила духа, чуждая человеческой природе.

In the article antinomy is analyzed as an aesthetic method in «Julian The Apostate» novel by D.S. Merezhkovsky. The inconsistency of thinking is observed in crisis historical episodes, so the antinomy is encountered either in philosophical searches of boundary of centuries, or in fighting of systems during the first centuries AD. In D.S. Merezhkovsky’s novel the antinomy is not only characteristic method of heroes, who experiences spiritual split at the dawn of Christianity, but also an integral part of the Truth (Gnosis), which is obtained in the synthesis of two fighting systems. One of the most major ideas of the writing is that the great Truth obtain (Gnosis) is possible through connection of the antithesis and due to effords of like-minded people. The only personality is unable to obtain the Trurh entirely – there’s a titanic power of the spirit needed, which is alien to human nature.
