В США в области социолингвистики и диалектологии собран обширный материал относительно региональных типов произношения, в то время как вариативность английской речи на территории Соединённых Штатов Америки остаётся практически неизученной. Мы рассмотрели экстралингвистические, а именно территориальные особенности Южного диалекта, объединив особенности диалекта Южного Горного района и диалекта Южного Побережья на примере произведения Harper Lee «To Kill a Mockingbird». Действие произведения разворачивается в американском провинциальном городе Мейкомб, штат Алабама. Нами были рассмотрены грамматические особенности южного диалекта. Примеры, взятые из произведения Harper Lee, помогли нам увидеть специфику диалекта Юга Соединённых Штатов Америки. Мы смогли сопоставить грамматические особенности данного диалекта с литературным английским языком и увидеть колоссальные различия. Проанализировав грамматические особенности южного диалекта на примере произведения «To Kill a Mockingbird», можно сделать вывод, что самой распространенной грамматической ошибкой местного населения является неверная постановка общего вопроса, употребление временной формы глаголов и отсутствие вспомогательных глаголов в предложениях.

In the USA in the field of sociolinguistics and dialectology an extensive material on regional types of pronunciation has been collected, while the variability of English speech on the territory of the United States of America remains practically unexplored. We have considered the extralinguistic features, namely, territorial peculiarities of the southern dialect, combining features of the dialect of the Mountain Southern region and the dialect of the Coastal Southern area on the example of the work by Harper Lee “To Kill a Mockingbird”. The action takes place in an American town of Maycomb, Alabama. We have studied the grammatical peculiarities of the southern dialect. The examples taken from the book of Harper Lee, helped us to see the specific nature of the dialect of the Southern United States. We were able to compare the grammatical features of this dialect with the literary English language and see huge differences. Having analyzed the grammatical peculiarities of the southern dialect on the example of the work “To Kill a Mockingbird”, we can conclude that the most common grammatical error of the local population is the incorrect formation of general questions, the use of tense forms of verbs and the absence of auxiliary verbs in the sentences.
